I recently got this spoon and fork set, the patterns are similar, but not the same. They're French 1st standard, 950-1000. Very attractive pieces. The spoon is entirely gilded. They both have the same crest engraved on them, very nice engraving!

I normally collect English and American pieces, but the quality and design of these was way too nice to pass on.

They are signed Odiot near the bowl on the spoon and near the tines on the fork. I haven't seen pieces like this before. However, while it's signed Odiot on the front, the maker's mark is totally different. It's FL.
Can anyone tell me more specific information why this is? And about how old they are?

Thanks in advance!

The maker of your flatware is François Laslier working from 1836-1848 in Paris at 380, rue St-Denis. His company was later bought by Émile Puiforcat.

In the nineteenth century Odiot used jobbers or sub-contractors to make much of their flatware, thus the pieces are marked both Odiot and the maker. Other jobbers working for Odiot were Jean Granvigne, Pierre Queillé, and Édouard Corvoisier.

This is an Odiot pattern called Louveciennes, after the name of the chateau of Madame du Barry, Louis XV’s favourite. It was created in 1781 and is still in production.
