I would really like to find out where my amber pendant came from. It has two stamps on the back of the bale. he first is a "P" (city) plus the 5-sided star with hammer and sickle inside (post-1958), and 875 (silver content). The other is a 5 (year 65? 75?) with a backwards R (Ya) and K (K). I would like to know what city the "P" represents, as well as which year the 5 represents, and who the maker "ya" "k" is. Welcome, compassrose, and thanks for the good description; sounds like you've done your homework! The "P" is the Cyrillic "R" and stands for Riga, Latvia, whose Soviet Assay Office covered the Lower Baltic, including Lithuania and Kaliningrad. The maker is (in typically mundane Soviet fashion) the Kaliningrad Amber Industrial Complex, and the "5" stands for 1975. Kaliningrad is better known by its pre-Soviet name Königsberg, and is by far the largest producer of amber in the world. Hope this helps! IP: Logged |
