Above is a tea strainer of type designed to fit in the spout of a teapot and swing with the motion of the pot as tea is poured. This one is kind of fun as it has, I believe, mistletoe surrounding the upper rim. It will be great around holiday time. This one is from France with the Minerva head on one side and the maker’s marks on the other. It is hard to see, but the maker’s mark is the letters C M on opposite sides of a flower design. There are marks on the handle and the spring that I think indicates that they are solid silver. If anyone has any idea as to who the maker is I would appreciate hearing something about them. A little searching on line revealed Charles Murat of Paris as the likely owner of this mark. It is stated that the flower in the mark is a blackberry with two leaves. Mr. Murat was in business from early 1850 until 1900. I believe this mark was registered in 1897 so the tea strainer was probably made between 1897 and 1900. The firm’s flatware patterns were brought by Ollier and Caron in 1900. [This message has been edited by ahwt (edited 08-11-2014).] IP: Logged |

Indeed a very butiful thing. The french did mark the individual parts of an item. To say that they where also silver. A early jugend item. Very thypical for the period. IP: Logged |
