[26-1778] Some time ago I already showed this punch ladle with other patterns, but this time I hope the silversmith will be recognized. The letters are TO and indication of 13 1/3 L is standing at the back of the flat lower part of the steel, The period it is made is around 1880. The other question is about the silversmith M.Olsen, I have three pieces of this silversmith and time indication is only the year which is engraved "1912". Pattern is Facon 1500. Can somebody give me please information about this silversmith, period of work and life and in which city in Norway (Bergen?) Photo's of the marks and M.Olsen serving spoons. IP: Logged |

Sorry I have checked my Norwegian books. Bergen 1568 till 1840. The book "Østlandssølv" and the book "Norske sølvstempler" no TO in any of these 3 books. IP: Logged |

Thank you for the quick reaction hose_dk and a lot of research from your side, about the mark TO. Perhaps it's a silversmith who made just a few silver items, made by hand so no serial production. I was thinking that it should be a family relative by Theodor Olsen from Bergen (perhaps a grandfather). Perhaps I've to send a e-mail with photo to the address in Bergen for get any more info about this item. The son of Theodor Olsen is called Torkel Olsen, that's what I just found for a couple of weeks ago. About the other name M.Olsen it can be the owner of a jewelry shop (in Bergen?)that information I got from a owner of a antique shop in Tønsberg. By e-mail I got information about the pattern facon 1500. The explanation about M.Olsen is from Bergen, is that at one fork is standing(marked)two names, hardly to identify but I read: M.OLSEN and L.H.AAS. Knowing that M. Aasen(1876-1953) worked in Bergen, required by Theodor Olsen(s)Eftf it's perhaps a possibility. The rose motif is still produced by a lot of silversmiths/factories in Norway and is a popular pattern.I have five different patterns of the Rose motif. Still a question: are the wedding gifts of total table silver sets, given by the parents or did the whole family gave each one, another piece of silver for wedding? Are families still doing this in Norway or in all the Scandinavian countries?
