Last week I have soldered the handle at this cream/milk jug. I have my doubt if this one was first a sugar box. I'm not a expert but if I look close the way some things are constructed I wonder if this was a sugarbox and has transformed into a milk/cream jug.

I will explain my thoughts first of all is the rough way the spout/nozzle is soldered at the outside. Inside the jug there is cut out a rather kind of triangle shape/hole. If have never seen the construction of a milk/cream jug before, but I suppose that a pattern is made out of one piece of silver? If I look down under, the bottom rim is also soldered at the bottom. The rim above/upside is also soldered. It's totally silverplated and inside you can see scratches made by a sugar tong? If it was a milk/cream jug it shouldn't be damaged at that place. The handle, the upper and down under rims are damaged the silverplate doesn't cover all.

I find it a nice pattern and when I look at the decoration of the handle I hope it still can be a rather old pattern.

The person who gave this one informed me that it should be rather old and was made in Holland. Because I don't know nearly nothing about this kind of patterns I hope somebody can give his/her opinion, thanks a lot, Andre.

There are no marks to find, is it a possibility that this pattern is made by a person for study and learning the profession as silversmith?

I do not see any particular reason to think that your little jug was ever anything else.
Maybe the soldering on the spout is a little untidy, but as it is not a "top line" object, that could be expected.

For a cream pitcher, it does seem rather odd. Maybe it was an exercise for a student?

Adelapt and Bascall thanks for reacting at my studential made jug. I also think it is made by a student, there are no marks to be find.

Only I hope the style of this one is to recognize for a certain period?

But it is continental and I gave it a try.

Have a nice day in Australia and in America it's rather late over here and tomorrow a early day start.
