[26-2352] I bought this fork and spoon recently and for the life of me I can't find any info on the hallmarks....any assistance would be greatly appreciated. My interest in silver has evolved with my understanding of the current economic climate we live in currently. I have always enjoyed antiques especially the story behind them and the craftsmanship that was required when those items were produced. This particular fork and spoon set struck me as interesting...not that they are elaborate in design or worth very much...but because of the inscription and where I found them. The mystery of this set is how did they get from "Club du Domino" in St. Elisabeth (wherever that is) in the year 1901 to a flea market in a very small rural community in NE Oklahoma? That's the kind of thing that keeps me looking for more info. The icing on the cake is that it is silver and a great little investment too. IP: Logged |

Your flatware may have come from St. Elizabeth, the largest parish in Jamaica, and with the use of the word domino (a kind of mask) it may have been a souvenir from one of their Mardi Gras Krewes or celebrations. This is really just a guess, but I would think that they were a souvenir from some event in 1901. I do not know who the marks are for, but the 800 would indicate that they are 80% silver. The wonderful thing about flea markets is that you can never predict what you will find and where it came from. IP: Logged |

This is a fun find. I agree that you have a mark for 800 standard silver from Belgium by the maker Bousin-Bonneville (BB) of Brussels, active 1878-1911. The language of the engraving is French - the proper name Elisabeth (French spelling of Elizabeth) preceded by what I read as an abbreviation Sr for sister, not St for Saint. In French a female saint would be Ste. Elisabeth, not St. Elisabeth. Club du Domino is also French for domino club. So either you have a domino-playing Belgian nun who won a silver prize for her skills, or a domino club named after Sister Elisabeth. IP: Logged |

Thanks KAYVEE for the maker's identification and for your analysis. That's some awesome analysis....I am betting on the Belgian domino playing nun! IP: Logged |

Here is the reference : Walter van Dievoet, Répertoire général des orfèvres et des marques d'orfèvrerie en Belgique, v. II: 1798-1942 (Brussels: Académie d'histoire de l'orfèvrerie en Belgique: 2010), p. 66, mark A1-058. IP: Logged |

I made an error in the second name of the maker of your flatware. It should be Bonnevie, NOT Bonneville. Please excuse me. IP: Logged |
