[26-2312] Hi everyone, I am trying to find some additional information on a silver kettle that I recently inherited from my great-aunt. The set that I have includes a 5" tall barrel shaped kettle with the handle and stand stylized to look like bamboo. The kettle has a dent in the bottom of one side, and the handle has possibly been reattached, but I am not sure of this. The only information that I have to its origin is that it was given to my great-aunt by an English gentleman friend of hers, who said it had been in the royal family. (Not sure if I believe this.) The mark that is on the bottom is a turtle in a triangle (or diamond.) There is also a Japanese signature on the side. I am including some photographs in case anyone here has more information on this piece. The only clue so far has been the same mark on another piece (a dragon box) posted by someone on this forum back in 2008. Many thanks in advance! IP: Logged |

Hello! Just a really quick answer as I am very busy this weekend. I believe the maker/retailer of the turtle mark is Sanju Saku. I don't have the magazine but there maybe some info in the January- February 2006 of Silver Magazine. Meji period. Have to ck my other books for further info but for now maybe it's a start for you. Good luck, hope this helps. Back to the Olympics! Jersey [This message has been edited by jersey (edited 08-03-2012).] IP: Logged |

Welcome to the forums. Jersey was unusually anxious... We usually wait till the new member provides all the background info as requested in the yellow box at the start of this page. Please tell us more about yourself and why you are asking? Is this business research? IP: Logged |

Sorry for the confusion on my part! My name is Angie Skinner and I own a business called Thunder Racing...we sell race car and street performance parts and have been in business for 17 years. This is not even remotely close to what I do in my line of work, LOL! I came across this site doing research on an unusual tea kettle that I was given by my mom when they were in the process of moving and going through all of their possessions. She gave me several other silver items...tflatware, etc...to sell for their "scrap" value, but this kettle is far too unique to end its life that way. My mother has given me what limited info she had; now, here I am trying to fill in the pieces of the puzzle. The thing that peaked my curiosity was that I could only find one reference to the turtle mark. Thanks again for any help! IP: Logged |
