Came across this spoon and trying to figure out what country it was made in and how old it might be. Admittedly the pictures are not the best. The shell (crown?) almost looks like it was cast and applied. The mark on the left looks somewhat like a shield and the letters are EC. It does not have any other marks other than those shown in the pic. It feels and looks like 800 silver (or pewter) but perhaps it's something else. Possibly a reproduction but perhaps not. Any info is appreciated. Tks

It is Durlach. Now Durlach is a part of city Karlsruhe in Baden (Baden-Württemberg), but about the time, the spoon was maked, Karlsruhe was foundet. I have looked in the church books and find two makers in Durlach: Ernst Croll (sen.) and Ernst Croll (jun.). The spoon is from first quater of 18th century. Have You better images of the marks? One has to do it. If there are again interesting hallmarks from Germany, let me know ;-)
This mark is on a chalice with engraving from 1713.
You can see an other variation of hallmark. [This message has been edited by silberpunze (edited 01-11-2019).] [This message has been edited by silberpunze (edited 01-11-2019).] IP: Logged |
