I love old silver in original boxes and was delighted to find this set of demitasse spoons with the post-1884 German crown-and-moon 800 silver mark in their original box. I believe these are from the late 19th or early 20th century. Can anybody identify the maker? The maker's mark was hard to photograph, partly because the spoons are so small that the whole mark didn't fit, so they each have a piece of it. Thanks!

Since they are vermeil they would also work as ice cream spoons. Many ice cream recipes (especially the older ones) used egg. So ice cream spoons were often gold washed (vermeil) to prevent tarnishing. IP: Logged |

Yum! The gold would protect them from the egg, true. But they're demitasse size, and I for one am too greedy to eat ice cream with such small spoons. Creme brûlée, maybe. IP: Logged |
