Can someone please help me out? I got what i think are 8 English sterling demi spoons. In looking at Seymour B. Weylers 'Book of Old Silver' on page 202 I see the same crown, lion and lower case letter 'a' for the date mark as being made in 1893 in Sheffield. The maker mark is HH, but I only found a marker mark of H.H, not the HH my spoons have. Are they still sterling? They are an interesting pattern of an old man at the top, and a face near the bowl on both front and back. Here is a link to the mark. Any help would be appreciated.

The picture is a little fuzzy and the date letter is hard to read. Anyway the marks look like good sterling silver Sheffield hallmarks to me. There were a lot of silversmiths in that region and there are some English makers marks that are just unascribed. IP: Logged |

Martine: Thank you so much for your help. It was a relief to learn not all makers are listed! Thanks again, IP: Logged |

The HH makers mark in England can be at times a little confusing. Everyone's first thought is Henry Holland (London) but a Sheffield maker does exist at a much later date. Happy day, dollface and I hope this helps! Cheers IP: Logged |
