[01-1236] Greeting all, I have a Chester Mustard pot that I am trying to date. And I correct in saying 1912/13? And if so, why is the cartouche the wrong shape? Both Tardy and my other book show the shape as one that this plainly isn't. The only matching one I can find is for 1737 and I think the shield is wrong for then. Many thanks in advance

You are correct in the 1912 date. Hand drawn marks, such as those in Tardy, can be somewhat inexact. As you noticed, the Town or City mark for Chester does not match that of the earlier date, having been changed to this representation in 1779. IP: Logged |
