I am submitting something I acqurired several years ago. I cannot do not what it is. I would like to know since it would make it easier to liquidate it if I knew how to describe it. I do not know the name of the makers but do know that it was made in London since it has the Leopard hallmark. No date letter only the sterling standard mark and the maker's mark. WW over F.D in a square cartouche. It is constructed of guilded sterling and leather and lined with silk. I have some ideas but am not sure of it's use. I will send images. IP: Logged |

Oops! The case is 8" long, 2 1/2" wide, & 1/2" deep. With capabilities of expanding to at least 1" to accomodate what is stored inside. The leather is accordian pleated on the edges. It will be interesting to see what the uses of this item could be. IP: Logged |

I think I would put fountain pens in it, or maybe eyeglasses. Brent [This message has been edited by Brent (edited 06-11-2002).] IP: Logged |

Fred, I don't really know what this was made for but I could see using it as a cheroot case. IP: Logged |

I vote for spectacle case. Silk lining suggests something needing care being stored in it. Dimensions are generous for early metal-framed specs, but maybe tortoiseshell glasses with more generous frames would have needed a case this ample. IP: Logged |

I don't know about the rest of you... I wonder what June snipped out of Scott's comment.... My initial thought was glasses as well, though they are a tad long. There is no distortion to the leather to give a clue as to what resided in the pouch. I guess I will need to sell it as a curiosity of sorts. Or I could say that I did not know what it was but that is was the finest one of them I had ever seen. Does anyone recognize the maker? IP: Logged |

I was also inclined to submit eyeglasses, or makeup brushes, toiletry articles; I don't believe cigars due to the silk lining, maybe a jewelry case...? IP: Logged |
