I have just acquired a fish knife and spoon combination, hand engraved with 'New Zealand' on the blade. The handle appear to be green stone or jade. Very old be appearance. The backs are marked with makers mark of A*M within a rectangle with concave sides. Both marked sterling. Any information would be nice......... New Zealand information seems very hard to get. Re N. Z. items - there is the well illustrated and informative "Gold & Silversmithing in Nineteenth & Twentieth Century New Zealand." by Winsome Shepherd, published by The Museum of New Zealand, Te Papa Tongarewa, 1995. ISBN 0-909010-38-2. Ozfred. quote: IP: Logged |

Shepard shows the mark you describe on page 228 of the marks section. Unfortunately, it is listed as "A.M. unidentifed". IP: Logged |

thanks to the both of you for your time ...... I'll just have to guess at the date of manufacture. New Zealand Silversmiths always seem to give me problems.... Mark IP: Logged |
