Saw Scott Martin's citation of SILVERSMITHS OF BIRMINGHAM & THEIR MARKS, 1750-1980. Since this books in in your reference collection, could you identify the makers whose marks are JG (with [lion] [Victoria head] [date letter for 1846-7] [anchor]); and JC (with [date letter for 1847-8] [anchor] [lion] [Vic. head])? The first mark is on a youth fork in a pattern similar to Wm. Chawner's PLANTAGENET, while the second is on a 3-piece child's christening set in an unidentified pattern that makes me think of Knights Templar. IP: Logged |

For each of the makers marks (JC or JG) there are 10+ examples in the book. The type face of the initials and the cartouche the initials are in need to be seen to identify the maker. Please post photos of the marks. IP: Logged |
