does the presence of the lion passant always indicate sterling on english silver? a lovely center bowl i had thought to be plate is marked with crown, lion passant and date letter n for 1905 along with the makers mark JR in an oval cartouche for john round & son ltd. many thanks in advance. tracey hamlett IP: Logged |

Yes. On English silver bearing true hallmarks, it does, but not all silver bearing a lion passant is English, and not all is Sterling. It may also be absent from Sterling that is not English. [This message has been edited by swarter (edited 03-18-2004).] IP: Logged |
