Hello everyone,

I'm new to your forum today, and have found the site to be a great resource(excellent). Anyway, I am having difficulty in dating silver covered brush & comb set I have, the marks are as follows;

wgs (Makers mark), an anchor, lion rampant, and the year is 'X', I can't seem to find any year date for X

Additionally I have a silver cased perfume bottle with the makers mark 'AN' and again, can't seem to identify the maker.

Any info. anyone has would be really be appreciated.

Nice to be here and hello to everyone (again)

Welcome to the Forums.

I am afraid we must have photographs in order to attempt identifications. Ordinarily, the anchor and lion rampant do not occur together. If the lion is passant, then probably your brush is from Birmingham; Glasgow uses the lion rampant,but no anchor, and both use the date letter "x" in each date cycle (in which the shape of the reserve differs), so you can see the need for the picture (all this assumes these are not electroplate). Also a maker's mark cannot be identified without other associated marks.
