I picked up a fish serving set and have been able to date the sterling collar to sheffield, 1921. I have noticed the marks FW noted on silver items listed on ebay and other auction sites, but have not been able to find a maker association. Any ideas? thanks, IP: Logged |

The Sheffield Assay office will provide you with the answer to your query. I believe the person you want to contact is Jackie Richardson (richj@assayoffice.co.uk). She is the librarian. The assay office website is contacts Under services it states "mark identification" as one of their services. Their maker's marks go back to 1773. (note: now maker's is now called sponsor's mark.) Posting a photograph of the matks is always helpful - someone might recognize them or at least verify that they are Birmingham hallmarks. IP: Logged |

Thanks for your suggestion. I will try to take a pic tomorrow in daylight. The marks are quite small on the collar and they do match the info for Sheffield and the year letter. The stamp with the makers mark is clearly FW capitalized with no other punctuation and are in a rounded edged rectangle box. IP: Logged |
