Hi there, Can anyone enlighten me on the following makers: C.C
and G U
(The photos are not of highest quality but by zooming they could be better seen.) Both makers are from Birmingham and both items from 1873. I am particularly interested in the full and exact names of makers, their working periods and if they had any particular objects they produced. Thanks in advance. IP: Logged |

Although I can't see your GU piece too well, I guess George Unite. An internet search reveals a wide selection of small objects including caddy spoons, christening cups and this rather delightful object, a ribbon threader:

CC is probably C.H. Cheshire whose mark was first entered at the assay office in 1867 and who continued working into the early 20th century. GU, as Patrick says, is George Unite. Unite's mark was first entered in August 1832 and his company continued production, using the GU mark, until around 1945. Phil IP: Logged |
