I have a pair of Silver Hallmarked 'Pepperettes' (A Cockeral and Hen)London H/M for 1881 (Uppercase 'E' in a shield)they also have (Unusually?) the Diamond design registration mark stamp - an 'I' in top circle with 23 below @ top of diamond and an - I to right below this with the letter - A to bottom and 2 to left side of diamond design registration - All this I think is - Class 1, 23rd, 1872, December, Parcel num 2. What's got me beat is sponsor / maker - They are

EHS is E H Stockwell. I can't tell you anything more about him though. I find Jackson pretty useless for London (and other) makers after about 1800 or so; some are mentioned, but they only seem to be there to illustrate the year marks. IP: Logged |

Edward H. Stockwell was one of the finest makers of small novelties (such as your peppers) in London during the period c.1870-1894. The business, in Greek Street in London's Soho (where there were many silver workshops, unlike today!!) was very prosperous and supplied most of the large retail establishments in London and the British provinces. EHS registered many designs at the Patent Office - these are available at the English National Archives in Kew, near London and SOMETIMES even name the designer!!
