Does anyone recognize this mark? It may be Colonial. The pseudohallmarks are reminiscent of those used by John and (later)William H. Ewan in Charleston, S.C. Although born in New York, John Ewan is believed to have worked in Jamaica, B.W.I., before arriving in Charleston, and he may have adopted his pseudohallmarks there, as some silver marked by him is also marked "Jamaica"

Could this possibly be Ott & Cluff (c 1803-1806)? I don't have a copy of their mark, but the letters seem to fit IP: Logged |

The O.&.C mark is attributed to merchant Chas. Osborn & Co. by John McGrew in Manufacturers’ Marks on American Coin Silver. I assume this attribution is based on Von Khrum’s Silversmiths of New York City, 1684-1850 as that is the source referenced. I do not have Von Khrum’s book. As noted by McGrew on Page 117 and page 121 this lion appears on silver from several merchants from New York City, but no attribution is made for the manufacturer. The only other reference I have to a Charles Osborn is as a designer for the Whiting firm. IP: Logged |

Thanks for the suggestions, but I am afraid the people mentioned are assuming the mark is American and guessing on these attributions, - The Ott & Cluff attribution, which recently appeared on ebay, is based only on the coincidence of the initials, as the cited reference contains no illustration of this mark; the von Krum suggestion the same, as that book contains no illustrations or mentions of marks, being only an annotated list - if normal practice were followed, such a mark would read 'O&Co."
