Earlier today I visited a good friend how has a fabulous collection of English silver. My task was to identify as much as I could for him - and I was under a deadline of just an hour and a half for about 50 pieces. Absolute heaven!!! It was as if 20 Friday nights had come together (Friday's the one night of the week that I look out for items that new members post for the fun of helping them identify the piece). And this time I could touch and handle them too!!!

This sugar bowel was not readily identifiable to me and so I took a picture. I think it is Chester, 1806. The maker's mark is just too faded to be identifiable to me. I'm posting three pics, two of the hallmarks and one of the item.

Any help that you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Tom

The Chester soverign's heads are in conforming punches. Try London, 1805. The Lions' head is in a recognized alternate shield for London, with a rounded bottom, if that is what mislead you.

Swarter,

Yes...I've looked at the marks for London 1805 and agree with you. Many thanks for your assistance. It is appreciated.

Rgds,

Tom
