Hi All,

I recently purchased this English tablespoon but couldn't track down the pattern name - my main interest is American silver, and I only buy the occasional English or French piece for myself.

I am hoping that some the members out there with a good knowledge of English patterns will be able to help me name this one - I have looked through Pickford and found no help. The spoon is 8 3/4 inches in length and approximately 3 1/2 troy ounces. Any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks!

Cliff

I can't help you with the pattern, but the maker's mark on your spoon (London, 1838) is probably that of Robert Garrard II, who registered similar marks in 1822, 1836, and 1847.

Hi,

Forgot to mention that I had identified the maker as Garrard; just hoping that some of the English silver specialists have access to materials from that company (inventory or pattern books, etc.). I kind of doubt that this pattern has been published in any of the standard references, though given the size of the spoon it apparently was used for other than just dessert services.
