Here is an interesting statistic I just stumbled upon from the UK Assay Offices 2001
Extra 2,266,774 articles marked in 2001 - an increase of 7.06% For the second year running the number of articles marked at the 4 Assay Offices of Great Britain achieved a new record. For the first time ever, the total rose above 34 million (34,364,007) - an increase of 7.6%. IP: Logged |

That was everything.... Silver was fairly static - showing a minute loss of 0.7% to a final total of 7,129,489 - just 51,329 fewer articles than were marked in 2000. IP: Logged |

Historically speaking, here's another interesting little statistic from The Post.ie "Records show that Dublin silversmith Matthew West assayed over 500 wine cups in a single year, 1787 to 1788." And wine cups are not the only thing he made. Considering the conditions back then I'd say he deserves some recognition! IP: Logged |
