I recently acquired a narrow drinking glass not glass but maybe celluloid or bakelite/ yellow/brown in colour with a crest on it. In the crest is is W.D.& CO. with a thistle,a castle and a wonderful cruved E. Engraved in the middle of the crest initials BAH I don't have a picture up yet but can email one well based on my skill level maybe. Thanks Patricia IP: Logged |

Hi there, Your beaker is almost certainly made of horn with a silver crest made by William Dunningham & co of Aberdeen circa 1935 and assayed in Edinburgh. [This message has been edited by Scotia (edited 05-15-2005).] IP: Logged |

Thank you it makes sense now, my only dilema is the E which is fancy and if you look that up it is dead on with the one 1734??? Patricia IP: Logged |

Hi there, The maker is well known for making blonde horn items, but there is no possibility that it dates to 1734. It is almost certainly 20th century and the E probably corresponds to the 1935 one. Sometimes the shape around date letters varies. If you email me some photos, I'll post them on here for you and we'll find out for certain. Having seen a photograph of the marks, I can confirm that it is 1935. The date letter is unmistakble. Waylander IP: Logged |
