there are four large markings (the lion meaning .925 sterling, the cat's head for London, a large "U" representing 1825, followed by the duty mark of the King - and then, another mark - I guess a Makers Mark. This mark resembles a "C", but is turned sideways, and almost upside down when compared to the other marks.

Does this make sense?

any help would be greatly appreciated

Without a picture, it is hard to be sure, but based on your description, I see a couple of issues. My sources indicate the leopard's head should precede the lion passant. The letter "U", small or capital was not the London date mark for 1825, but was in use for 1835/6. I don't no the makers mark, but I have seen such marks stamped crooked on silver.

Hope this helps,
TM

We cannot accurately interpret hallmarks without a photograph, especially when there is an abnormality. Please see our hallmark faq for a further explanation.
