I have a basket hallmarked for Birmingham 1879. The maker is JFF over FF.
Can someone recognised this maker?
Thank you very much

I don't know this maker, but would just like to add that I've only seen the mark on Sheffield silver, either as "JFF" over "FF" or "JFF" over "&FF" with dates between about 1865 and 1885.

Hi Phil,
I'm very sorry for the wrong question. The piece was indead marked in Sheffield (crown, lion, letter M sans serif and Victoria head).
It is not possible to see if there is an & before FF or not, but I suppose that cannot exist to many makers in Sheffield with such a marks.

According to the Sheffield Assay Office Register, printed in 1911 and the Second edition dated 1989, the hallmark of JFF over &FF belonged to Fenton Brothers of South Moor Works, Earl Street, Sheffield. This mark was entered on 13 August 1868.
Another mark of JFF over FF belonged to Fenton Bros at the same address and was entered on 26 June 1875.
