I have a pair of silver hairbrushes belonging to my grandmother which are inscribed with her name 'Emma'. Am pretty sure that the Lion, Face and L with Duty Mark indicate 1886/7, london which would have tied in with her 21st Birthday. She was born in 1865. I am struggling with the maker's mark which is JR above SJ. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You IP: Logged |

This is the mark of Rosenthal, Jacob & Co. The initials are for Judah Rosenthal and Samuel Jacob. Your date of 1886 ties in perfectly with the period they were in production. Phil IP: Logged |
