Hello All Trying to find the maker J & J Aldous or Joseph & John Angell, the mark is more like 1843-4 on page 170 of Old Silver by Wyler - the Aldous mark is square and this mark is like 4 circles with the lettering inside, this really leads me to believe that John Angell might have had another brother or apprentice that it why the mark is JA IA? What are your thoughts on this?

Hi there, The date of your piece is almost certainly 1838 with th gothic "C" date letter and I would presume the makers were Joseph & John Angell due to the style of the punch with the satr between. IP: Logged |

The letter I was often used for the letter J. It is interesting to see a mark where both partners first name started with a J and one chose to use a J and the other chose the I. IP: Logged |
