I have a set of six tee spoons which where made in London 1809-10. I was interested to find out the maker with the mark R.T.

It's hard to be certain, as I can't make out all the details from the photo, but most likely Richard Turner, who was first entered as a smallworker in 1801, then as a spoonmaker, first in partnership with John Shea (1808), then on his own (1809). At that time he was working at 31 St. John's Square (information from Grimwade's London Goldsmiths). Grimwade shows a pellet-less mark, but notes that one with a pellet between the R and T, as this appears to have, was entered in 1809. IP: Logged |

Thanks for the quick reply with excellent information (it could have not been more than 10 min). Yes there is a pellet between the letters so the maker is Richard Turner. Interesting that he changed a little his mark in year 1809.

Excuse my being pedantic, but these are "tea" nto "tee" spoons, so called because they are used to stir tea. Rgds, Tom IP: Logged |

Yes you are correct, sorry for a typing error. Most likely can not be used in golf . [This message has been edited by kerppola (edited 08-15-2006).] IP: Logged |

Just bend the shaft at a 90 degree below the bowl and stick the shaft into the ground. Then you will have had a 'sterling' round of golf. IP: Logged |
