![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Hello all, Here is an interesting pair of spoons with a mark I can't place. The spoons are rather substantial Fiddle Thread pattern teaspoons, with a nice crest of clasped hands. The mark is B&R flanked by separately struck [S]'s. There are a couple of possible American makers, like Brower & Rusher, but this arrangement of S's does not appear in McGrew, and it made me think it might be some sort of English colonial mark.If anyone has any evidence one way or the other I would appreciate a lead. Thanks! Brent IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Could the clasped hands be the emblem of a fraternal organization? I can't help with the marks, though. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Clasped hands were used often by fraternal organisations (Odd Fellows, etc.) but in this case, I suspect they have a heraldic significance. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() quote: Exactly. The clasped hands are resting on a torse, and so represent the heraldic "family crest" of the original owner. The mark is that of Brower & Rusher (New York, 1836-42). [This message has been edited by swarter (edited 06-08-2009).] IP: Logged |
