Is anyone familiar with these marks? I thought that they were Sheffield marks, but I can't find them in my books. The first mark looks like a C or a G. The second mark looks like H&C or E&C with a crown. The third mark looks like an L. The fourth photo is the dish the marks are on. There is gold gilt on top, but I think it is sterling. It is quite heavy. The marks on the back are unclear which are in the last photo. IP: Logged |

The style of the dish looks very Hanau-like. IP: Logged |

I would venture to guess the second photo shows a shield-shaped mark with a figure (can't identify) and "K & G?" below. The first photo, maybe a floret in a diamond-shaped mark. Can't guess at third photo. Certainly not Sheffield sterling. [This message has been edited by salmoned (edited 04-24-2006).] IP: Logged |

Well it took me a whole day to figure it out. These are Elkington's marks. I found the marks in the book of Sheffield plate. I'm not sure what the marks are for in the last photo. They look like french marks? [This message has been edited by robelle (edited 04-24-2006).] IP: Logged |

Well done. Rainwater's "Encyclopedia...(4th Ed.)" lists this mark as for 1841. IP: Logged |
