I have a gold teapot that I have been told is listed in Wyler's Book Of Old Silver p.331 (upper right) and has an 1821 Sheffield Platers mark (Blagden Hodgson & Co). Did they work in gold or have I been misled? IP: Logged |

Page 331 in My Wyler book only shows American Silversmiths in alphabetical order from J. Decker-D.N. Dole. Thanks, Tad IP: Logged |

Oops! That was supposed to be p.313. Also I don't know if there have been multiple editions of this book (this reference I have may go back as far as 1965)Thanks! IP: Logged |

CT, I only find them as Sheffield Makers and not Goldsmiths. I would have it tested to see if it is Gold or Gold Plated at a later date. Good Luck, Tad IP: Logged |

Well, "The Book of Old Siver" by Wyler. My edition is 1937 copywright, 1978 printing, so, I think that they should all be alike. The maker Blagden, Hodgson & Co is listed on page 269, with a date of 1821 under "Sheffield Platers Marks". Your post "teapot that I have been told is listed" sounds like someone told you that its picture is in the book? It is not. This book does not concern gold, although many silversmiths worked in gold and vice versa. I feel, like Tad Hale, that this was gold plated at a later date. IP: Logged |
