Hello again. I just got back from a recent trip and I came across this serving spoon it is almost 12 inches long but I cant figure out if its sterling or plate I see the lions head possibly a cat head facing 3rd mark? and fourth a face in profile and then of cource on top of the lion head the initials J.B dont know who this is any help appreciated.

Arthur,

It is sterling as indicated by the lion passant, made in London shown by the leopard's head, and made during the reign of Queen Victoria as indicated by the sovereign's head duty mark at the bottom. Your picture is small and difficult to read (my eyes are not getting any younger). I think the date letter is "J" for 1844-45, but I would need a close up to be sure. I don't have a good source on London goldsmiths, so I will leave identifying "JB" to some one else.

Very nice. Yes, it is "J" for 1844-5.

This is James (not John) Beebe. His career lasted from 1811 to c1847.

thank you for your correction my source said john beebe no wonder I was not finding anything I will try and look up james beebe any suggestions?
