Hi. I work at a small antique store. Someone brought this plate in today. I have no idea what it is or what to do about it, but i really like the design and would like to know if it's anything special. I've looked around several sites but cant find out anything. Help? Please? Thanks IP: Logged |

Let me clarify my interest: I'm just really curious if this is old or new, if it was mass produced or if it was made by a small man with five kids who mad things to support his family. I'm not interested in monetary value. I just love the history behind these kinds of things. IP: Logged |

It's very pretty. How big is it? Since it says 'Made in' then as an antique dealer you know that means after about 1918 although there are exceptions (stickers that fell off, etc.). It's not sterling as it is English and there is no Lion Rampant ('leo the lion'). The large script name is the pattern name. JT is the maker. I do not know what the other stamps mean as I am not good with English silver or English plate. For all I know it could not have any silver in it at all! Someone else here may be able to identify the maker and the stamps for location/age perhaps. If you are thinking it might be old Sheffield plate it isn't because you never see the word 'Sheffield' on Sheffield plate. Sheffield plate often only has a makers mark and nothing else. It looks like a standard tea and/or coffee tray to me. What does special mean anyway? If someone wants a pretty, engraved tea tray then it would be special, wouldn't it? well... it's about 2.5ft from handle to handle and 1.5ft the other way. it seems really big for a tray and thats what made it stand out. special? To me, thats anything with a cool history. Anything out of the ordinary or unique. But you're right. special can go for about anything. Thanks IP: Logged |
