[26-1078] Hi I have a pair of silver either coffee pots or chocolate pourers, not sure which they are, they have a left and right wooden handle and would like to know anything about the hallmark. Regards

Not silver. Not hallmarks. Roberts & Belk, Sheffield. IP: Logged |

Roberts and Belk are a company that produces high quality silverplate in traditional styles. Which is a rather vague term. Traditional seems to mean things that look sort of familiar. Anyway, pieces by this firm are really good stuff. But it is difficult to tell old from new as they keep making the same designs over and over again. IMHO Roberts and Belk are best classified as being at the top of the department store hierarchy of silverware. Their items are well made, historically sort of designs, and really usefull handy pieces. Enjoy them. Could you please tell us more about your interest in silver? IP: Logged |

Thanks for the quick response and information which has been very informative. I bought these pieces for my husband for an anniversary present, but I thought they were silver. Don't have any specific interest in silver as such, just like it IP: Logged |

Can I ask one more favor? What does the number 47 mean on the mark and can anyone tell me whether these are coffee pots or chocolate pots. Thanks

The number is most likely a stock or design/pattern number. And if they are one each right handled and left handled, they would be for cafe au lait, where one would simultaneously pour the coffee and milk into the cup. Bon appetit! IP: Logged |
