[26-1882] Hi, I have some apostle spoons with rubbed marks similar to these, but without the English import marks. Does anyone know where they came from?

The second mark of the left looks like the city (town mark) of Amsterdam. The first from the left should be a lion? It looks like pseudo marks to me and imitation from earlier dated marks. The city of Amsterdam use three andreas crosses in his city shield. I will look for the englisch marks. IP: Logged |

Thank you so much. I can see now that the cartouche is like that for Amsterdam. Alsomust be a place mark because I have now found it on 3 sets of similar spoons- the one in the photo, maker LL, my ownspoons, maker DR & a third, maker MC in a similar question & photo posted on the ASCAS site. In addition the dress of the man depicted at the bowl end of the handle is Dutch or Germanic in style. Hopefully with a range of makers & a location I should be get a better date. Many thanks IP: Logged |

Hi Minnie, We ask that people tell us a bit about themselves when they begin posting. Like what they collect, the reasons for asking the questions they do. We have been burned several times by people trying to use us as a free appraisal service. We do not object to helping people with questions but we strongly object to dealers asking us to do their research. So, tell us what part of the world you are in, how you became interested in silver and what you collect. And let us know if you are a dealer, collector or some combination. We have had a number of really intersting threads from people who wondered about inheirited silver. IP: Logged |
