[01-1522] Received as gift mustard pot bought at local auction. Described in catalog as "contrast of city of London of 1817 and mark of silversmith" . But has only two marks lion passant and mark very similar to London 1817 but bottom of frame is rounded instead of peaked. No assay office mark. These markings are on lid, bottom of pot shows signs of erasure. Any suggestions? Thank you! IP: Logged |

There are numerous possibilities - one, for example, is that your pot might be early 19th century Chinese export with pseudo-hallmarks closely copying English originals. However, photos of the marks and the pot itself would be essential before forming any opinion. IP: Logged |
