[01-1795] I have a Victorian teapot with a bit of a story to it. It is believed to have been a present to a friend of my great grandmothers from Queen Victoria for her services as a lady in waiting. However the hallmarks do not tally with any info found so far! On the top row appears a lower case "S" in a square with rounded corners, on the middle row there is a lower case "A" in a Gothic style writing, then a crown and letters TR&S(or B instead of R)in a small shield, followed by an upper case "B" also in Gothic text on the bottom row is a small diamond with an upper case "H" inside. Any info or help on this would be great IP: Logged |

One possibility if it is TB&S is Thomas Bradbury & Sons, who assayed silver pieces in Sheffield and London. I believe thy also made silverplated items. In addition to the marks you describe, is there a lion passant and either a cat's face for London or a crown for Sheffield? If not your teapot is probably silver plate. Either way it sounds an interesting piece and photos would help to confirm! IP: Logged |

Anything is possible, but in my experience family stories that go with heirlooms are rarely true, especially anything purported to have belonged to either Queen Victoria, George Washington, Napoleon Bonaparte or a Romanov. In my experience those seem to be the people around whom people's family heirloom stories are most often centered. You did not mention whether your teapot has either a crest or a cypher engraved on it. If it did originally belong to the old girl, one would expect to see her engraved cypher - a VR surmounted by a crown - and/or the royal coat of arms as well. If it does not have either or both, you would need to obtain substantial evidence which is called "provenance" that proves this once belonged to Victoria R. to have a credible tale to go with your teapot.
