HI everyone. My mother has six silver spoons with an anchor, a lion, a J(1933 I think), and an E&Co mark on them. Could anyone identify the maker or tell us a little more about them. IP: Logged |

Hello Hope my humble reply is correct. I believe the spoons originate from Birmingham (England) and as you say date from 1933. Makers mark is probably Elkington & Co, England. IP: Logged |

After all the help I received yesterday, I'd like to give something back. According to my copy of Jackson's Hallmarks, E&Co is as has been said, likely to be Elkingson & Co Limited. There are seven different versions of E&Co given, each for a particular period. The comments are that "Quality if always superb. Designs vary from run-of-the mill commercial to extremely important by people like Morel-Ladueil and Dr C Dresser. An important 19th C firm with very wide range". Hope this is of help. If you would like to post a picture, I'd be happy to try to tell you the period from which it comes from the maker. Rgds, TBC IP: Logged |
