I am trying to get information about a "chippendale" style tray. It is 14-inches across, sits on 4 feet. I am trying to read the marks, but I need some help. The marks are TB over S (I can't find anything on the internet that seems like this mark), a Crown (made in London?), a Lion (Sterling?), and a lower case "n" in a square (1828 ?)Thanks for any information you can give me. The lion passant indicates English sterling. The crown is the town mark for Sheffield, not London. The small "n" in a square could be 1905/6 or 1930/1. A photo is necessary to be sure. TM IP: Logged |

Additionally, the makers mark sounds to be that of Thomas Bradbury & Sons, whose mark of TB&S was entered in 1892. They produced a wide variety of goods. Further I quote "Thomas Bradbury & Sons were manufacturers based in Arundel Street, Sheffield from 1832 to 1916, however the company’s origins can be traced back even further to the late 19th Century when it was known as Fenton, Creswick & Co which was one of the original companies to enter a mark at the newly opened Sheffield assay office in 1773. Thomas Bradbury I became a partner in the company in 1795. Thomas Bradbury and sons are particularly well known for reviving many earlier styles of spoons in the early 20th Century. Good quality copies of trefids, lacebacks, seal tops and picture backs can be found in addition to the standard patterns. The company was closed down in 1943, its’ dies & tooling were bought by Atkin Brothers." Hope this is of some assistance Waylander IP: Logged |
