The maker's mark appears to be an overstamp. This happened when a supplier (whether maker or retailer) strikes his/her stamp over the top of that of whoever the item was sent to assay by. In this case, it will take someone with very good eyes or a lot of optimism to identify who the punchmarks belonged to. It is overwhelmingly likely to be a London made spoon, as would have been supplied to retailers all over England, and may not have been bought new by your ancestor.. IP: Logged |
