Above is a page turner with a silver handle and a blade made from tortoiseshell. The marks are for London 1905 and the silversmith is William Comyns. This smith must have been successful as his first mark was recorded in 1859 and he continued well into the 1900s with his sons. Page turners seem to usually have silver handles and either ivory or tortoiseshell blades. This turner has Cherubim Putti Angels on the handle so it may have started its life in a religious setting. We now need to find a large book for this 16” page turner. IP: Logged |

Very nice! Either it got a lot use or it was polished often because the Cherubim Putti Angels detail is hard to see. Think newspaper/maps. IP: Logged |
