This dog nose spoon is 7 5/8 inches long and that, I think, was a common length for this type of spoon. This is a perfect size for soups, stews, and such. I suspect that it had lots of use for these ends, and I hope to continue to use for these purposes.
The spoon has monograms on both sides in the style of that is named shaded Roman block. The monogram on the back is in the form common for weddings and that on the front for an individual. If the spoon could talk it would tell me if there was any relationship between the people.
This spoon is from London c1703 and has a partial makers mark that is in the form of a heart. Unfortunately, the heart shaped form was popular at this time so no attribution can be made by me. The beaded rattail does not seem to be as common as a plain one and does add a little embellishment. Many are also decorated on the back with a lace-like design.
