Special Features
Duhme made a great number of engraved patterns, the
most famous of which was noted as "Number 1" first
produced in 1869. At this time Duhme made the twisted
stem famous and number one is found both with and
without twists. The pattern concept was copied
extensively. In the Duhme section of the forum is shown
a Whiting imposter tablespoon.

Most sources give the origination date as 1869 and
pieces can be found in both coin and sterling. Coin

Duhme supposedly continued in business the turn of the
Century, however Hagan does not show any new patterns
produced after 1890. While number One was one of their
earliest patterns it did continue on for some time, I
do have a piece with a date of " '86 " engraved on
it.

Demi-Tasse/Coffee spoons? Ben, what have you

Comments
The twisted Duhme Number 1 is a
classic American type and deserves a place in any
historic place setting collection. It was copied
extensively. Actually the tablespoon is an imposter by
Whiting. See Silver Salon Forum posting.
